Client Rights

At the CACGROC, you have a right to:  

Receive service(s) without regard to race, creed (religion), color, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, military status, age, disability or predisposing genetic characteristic, marital status or domestic violence victim status. 


Consideration, respect, and dignity at every stage, including privacy in treatment.


Expect assistance that is reliable, high-quality, and culturally and linguistically relevant. 


Be informed of services available at the center, as well as charges for services (if any), eligibility for third-party reimbursements and, when applicable, the availability of free or reduced cost care. 


Privacy and confidentiality except where compelling ethical, moral or legal reasons exist. 


Voice grievances and recommend changes in policies and services to leadership without fear of reprisal. 


Express complaints about the care and services received, and have the agency investigate such complaints.


Request additional support: If requested by the client, the center is responsible for providing the client or his/her designee with a written response within 30 days indicating the findings of an investigation.  If the client is not satisfied with the center’s response, the center is also responsible for notifying the client or his/her designee that the client may make a complaint to the New York State Office of Civil Rights.

The intake process serves as an important initial point of contact between a parent or caregiver and The Child Advocacy Center of Greater Rochester. Coordinating intake effectively is crucial to ensuring that children receive proper support, care, and protection.

Multidisciplinary Team (MDT)

The Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at the CACGROC is comprised of agencies with expertise in child abuse investigations, support services, and referrals. The purpose of the MDT is to reduce potential trauma to children and their families and improve services, while preserving and respecting the rights and obligations of each agency to pursue their respective mandates. 

The MDT uses a coordinated process to: 

Determine the validity of child abuse allegations.

Avoid unnecessary disruption to families during investigations.

Work collaboratively.

Eliminate duplication of efforts.

Increase the number of successful adjudications in Family Court and criminal courts.

Enhance the competence of the professionals involved in child abuse investigations; and provide support services for abused children and families.

Coordinating intake processes in child abuse cases is a multifaceted endeavor that requires collaboration, communication, and a commitment to the safety and well-being of children.

By prioritizing timely identification, holistic evaluation, trauma-informed approaches, and accountability, intake coordination plays a pivotal role in safeguarding vulnerable children and promoting their healing and resilience.

The Intake Process 

During intake, our staff work closely with families to do an individual needs assessment, discuss viable options, and coordinate appointments accordingly.

 Appointments are regularly scheduled for: 

A trained professional will provide the support, resources and guidance you need to take the next step, whether it’s to call Child Protective Services, schedule a forensic interview for the child, or see a mental health professional.

Suspect Abuse?

To report abuse, call the New York State Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-342-3720. An operator will help you and, if appropriate, register the call in the New York State Central Register. If accepted, this will prompt an official investigation by County Child Protective Services.
